“On Track Can help young people as it gives them motivation to achieve something”.
Kira did not have a positive experience of education and felt that she was not supported during a period of her life where she struggled socially and emotionally. This experience left Kira with low educational attainment, low motivation and she struggled with her mental health. Despite this Kira was able to recognise that she has always had a passion to work with animals.
Kira was referred to On Track through Norfolk County Council. Since joining On Track Kira has gained motivation through the On Track programme, specifically through working with her Coach (Jade). Kira found that as she met with Jade and Jade set goals and targets for Kira this allowed her to keep more of a focus during the process. Since beginning her dog walking business Kira has developed her communication skills greatly through talking to clients as well as other dog walkers whilst out on walks. Kira continues to volunteer at a dog training centre where she has gained experience for around a year now. In the future Kira hopes that through volunteering she is able to demonstrate to the business owners that she is capable if any opportunities arise.
Kira has enjoyed setting up her dog walking business and loves walking the dogs. Kira has said that she enjoys being outside and her job has helped her to improve her mental health, overall fitness and has had a positive impact on her asthma. Kira has said that she is continuing to develop her paperwork skills as she recognises that this is an important aspect to running her own business.
Well done Kira! We wish you all the best in your new venture.
